CANDIDATE Master (CM) Calvin Prasad has been officially elected as the president of the Fiji Chess Federation followings its 36th annual general meeting last month.

Prasad who has been acting on the post was elected the new president replacing Doctor Virgilio de Asa who held the post for more than a decade.

Dr de Asa did not seek re-election making way for Prasad to take the top post.

Federation general secretary Goru Arvind was pleased to note that most office bearers from 2014 have been re-elected.

“We have also added new members like Dr. Anirudh Singh, Simon Yuen, Ravikesh Prasad and Asheel Singh to boost our executive committee,” Arvind said.

“Their experience will help us to develop chess in Fiji at a new level.”

Meanwhile, Prasad scooped the 2015 TappooCity National Blitz Chess Championship, a week ago.

He scored 10/12 despite a loss to Tianata Terubea in a very competitive field.

CM Manoj Kumar finished second with the same score after losing to Prasad.

Terubea, CM Noel Adricula and CM Arvind scored 8/12 to finish 3rd, 4th and 5th overall.

The tournament attracted a significant number of youngsters along with some new faces.
