The Chess Association of “West Azerbaijan” province on behalf of I.R. Iran Chess Federation organized the 23rd Fajr International Open Chess Tournament from 18th to 23rd February, 2015 in Urmia, the capital of of West Azerbaijan Province in Iran.

The event was a 9-round Swiss open tournament with tempo of play 90′ + 30″.

157 players from 8 different countries took part in the event, including 4 GMs, 1 WGM, 5 IMs, 6 FMs and 3 WFMs.

IM Logman Guliev from Azerbaijan edged his compatriot GM Azer Mirzoev and Latvian GM Ilmars Starostits on a better tie-break score to take the gold after the whole group finished the event with 7,5/9 points.

Mirzoev became second, while Starostits remained third.

WFM Dorsa Derakhshani, a 17-year-old Iranian player, scored 7 points to become the best female player in the tournament and added 26 new ELO points to her rating.
