GM Abdullah Al-Rakib wins CJKS-Prime Distribution Group GM Chess Tournament
The CJKS-Prime Distribution Group GM Tournament 2015 took place on 5-13th February, 2015, in Chittagong, Bangladesh.
The event was a 10-player round-robin tournament including 3 Grandmasters, 4 International Masters, 1 Woman Grandmaster and 2 FIDE Masters. The winners received two thousand five hundred US dollars (2,500 $) in total.
GM Abdullah Al-Rakib of Bangladesh Navy became champion.
Rakib earned 6 points out of 9 games to clinch the title. GM Vahidov Tair of Uzbekistan became runner-up with the same amount of points, but worse tie-break score (number of victories).
GM Niaz Murshed of Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited became third and IM Minhazuddin Ahmed of Bangladesh Navy finished fourth, with 5½ points each.
IM Somak Palit of India became fifth scoring 5 points.
IM Akshat Khamparia of India, FM Sk. Nasir Ahmed of Bangladesh Navy and IM Abu Sufian Shakil of Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club earned 4 points to finish fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
WGM Toma Katarzyna of Poland became ninth with 3 points and FM Kh. Aminul Islam of Bangladesh Navy got tenth with 2 points.
The Prize distribution ceremony were held yesterday (Friday) at CJKS Auditorium of M. A. Aziz Stadium. Honorable Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Mr. Mohammed Abdullah distributed prizes among the winners to present as chief guest. Mr. Mesbah Uddin Ahmed Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong and President of CJKS presided the ceremony. Mr. A. J. M. Nasir Uddin General Secretary of CJKS and Senior Vice-President of Bangladesh Cricket Board, Mr. Rashedul Alam Mamun sponsor of the event and Managing Director of Prime Distribution Group were present special guests. Mr. Eliyas Hossain Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) and Vice-President of CJKS, Mr. Mozammel Haque Vice_President of CJKS, Syed Shahab Uddin Vice-President of Bangladesh Chess Federation, Mr. Md. Mokaddes Hossain Vice-President of Bangladesh Chess Federation, Ln. Mazibar Rahman Howladar Executive Member of Bangladesh Chess Federation. Mr. Md. Aminul Islam, Joint-Secretary of CJKS and Chairman of Chess Committee of CJKS, Mr. Shahajada Alam Joint-Secretary of CJKS, Mr. Jahedul Islam Secretary of Chess Committee of CJKS and Executive Members and Councilors of CJKS were present in the ceremony.
Earlier ninth or last round games were held yesterday (Friday) morning. In the last round GM Rakib beat FM Nasir, GM Tair defeated IM Shakil, GM Niaz outplayed IM Somak, IM Minhaz beat FM Amin and WGM Toma prevailed against IM Akshat.
