Five-time world champion is beaten by Hikaru Nakamura at the Zurich Chess Challenge in a previously unscheduled ‘Armageddon’ game

The end of the Zurich Chess Challenge was tinged with controversy, asHikaru Nakamura equalled Vishy Anand’s score overall by defeating and outscoring him in the Rapid section before winning what seemed to be a previously unscheduled play-off.

Earlier in the day, a Blitz play-off was announced.

But after a delay and what appeared to be some consultations between players and organisers, an Armageddon game was decided upon.

Anand won the toss and opted to play white with five minutes on the clock to four for Nakamura.
