The 2014 edition of the South African Open took place on 12-19th July 2014 in Bloemfontein, the capital city of the Free State Province of South Africa and the judicial capital of the nation.

The event was split into two 11-round Open Tournaments: Open A and Open B.

Section A gathered 131 players from 9 different countries, including 1 GM, 1 IM, 2 FMs, 1 WGM and 2 WIMs.

Top prizes: 10.000 R/ 8.000 R/ 6.000 R/ 5.000 R/ 3.500 R.

Georgian GM Merab Gagunashvili finished on top with 10/11 points.

The runner up WGM Toma Katarzyna from Poland collected 9,5/11, leaving the nearest follower, local IM Mabudela Johannes Manyedi, half a point behind.

First place in Open B was taken by the South African Felix More.
