Chung Wah boost with chess equipment

FRIDAY, 07 FEBRUARY 2014 12:52

Chung Wah primary school this week received new chess equipment.

A total of five chess sets, five chess clocks and one demo board were donated to the School chess club to assist in its development plans and programs for 2014 chess in schools.

The equipment was donated by the visiting Federation Internationale Des Echecs (FIDE) top official last week.

The handing over of chess equipment coincided with the visit by an Australian international chess player, Jamie Kenmure.

It was a fun day for the students as they witnessed Kenmure played against two students.

Kenmure also took the chance to introduce some basic moves to students and he was impressed to see the eagerness some students have to learn more about the chess in schools.

This is the second visit by chess officials for the year.

The school also had a visit by the CEO of the World Chess Organization (FIDE) Geoffery Borg last week.

This was the first time schools and even the Solomon Islands Chess Federation has had a FIDE official of such high status to visit them.
