Three bids were received from the federations of Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey and an inspection of the facilities was made by Anil Surender (former President, Swedish Chess Federation) and David Jarrett (former Executive Director) from May 14th to May 18th 2013. The inspection was based on probable entries exceeding the Maribor 2012 event of nearly 1600 players and a total of around 3000 including accompanying persons.

2015 WYCC will be the last championship under the current format. Starting from 2016, due to the massive size of the event, the World Youth Chess Championships will be divided in two events, the first one for U8, U10, and U12, and the second one for U14, U16, and U18. Exactly the large number of players were the central reason for choosing Porto Carras as venue – having a Convention Center of 2000 square meters plus additional 2000 square meters in halls, while at the same time being all-round 5 star top quality resort.

Porto Carras has been a venue of multiple massive European and World events. It was the main venue of the European Team Chess Championships in 2011, the World Youth Chess Championships in 2010, and the World School Chess Championship in 2013
