Tobago’s secondary schools will soon benefit from a new chess initiative dubbed RHAND’s Scholastic Chess Challenge, a new programmed being rolled out by the Trinidad and Tobago Chess Foundation and supported by RHAND Credit Union.

The Scholastic Chess Challenge, adopted by RHAND as part of its Skills Development Programme, will be launched on Thursday at the Ministry of Works Conference Centre in Scarborough, Tobago.

The programme will provide students with the opportunity to participate in two major Chess tournaments. The Chess Foundation will facilitate the programme by providing training and coaching to the schools and students in preparation for the challenge.

According to TTCF president Edison Raphael, the students will benefit tremendously from the programme.

“Chess and its inherent benefits,” Raphael said in a TTCF release, “through the development of its players’ attention span, intelligence, memory and analytical ability can only serve our country in good stead, and as such, the (T&T) Chess Foundation is pleased to again partner with RHAND Credit Union in bringing this opportunity to students in Tobago.”
