FIDE Master Mwango holds South African October 6, 2012

ZAMBIA’s Lorita Mwango drew her round six match at the Africa Youth Chess Championship in South Africa while Sekelani Tembo and Jonathan Thomas lost their respective games.
Playing in the combined under-16 and 18 age group categories, FIDE Master Mwango stretched South Africa’s Women Candidate Master (WCM) Monica Jansen van Rensburg to split the point on board two.
Mwango was playing white pieces and after the draw, she moved to four points in third position, behind Rensburg by half a point, while leader Woman International Master (WIM) Shrok Wafa of Egypt is undefeated in six matches.
In round seven, Mwango was set to face Liezel Engelbrecht of South Africa.
And in the boys’ under-14, Tembo lost to Mohamed Zayan of Egypt on the top board.
The defeat leaves the Zambian, who was ranked last of the 13 players in the category at the start of the tournament, on three points and eighth overall.
Tembo played black pieces and is scheduled to play another Egyptian, Mark Yasser, the top ranked player in the category but the young Zambian will play white pieces in this match.
In the boys’ under-12, Thomas was defeated by Gideon Hoon of the host nation to remain on three points and fifth on the standings.
He plays Veer Shah of Kenya in round seven.
