Cuban GM Lazaro Bruzon Batista (2653) won the tournament with 7/9. He won his final match against Quesada Perez Yuniesky (2603) in active-chess after the first game was drawn in normal play.
There were 8,000 euros prizes in this Open but the players who play 4 tournaments in the Catalan Circuit can also play for a total prizes of 175,000 euros in the circuit.
There were 9 GMs and one WGM, 17 IMs and one WIM, and 11 FMs. The conditions of play were very good with a comfortable air conditioned room for the players of the two groups.
A little team of Belgium named “Dark Knights Leuven” was there with 6 players (with 4 beginners). Badalona was just next Barcelona and the playing room only few metro steps from Barcelona’s center (about 20′).
What nationality is Bruzon?
He is from Cuba
