Mark
Looks somehow like yesterday’s game Ivantchuck vs. Gelfand. Is this a fake?
To Anon @6:40 – not sure why black should play 4… b1Q. 4… Be5 and the tables turn completely.
I reckon the better sequence is
1. Bh7+ Kh8
2. hxg7+ Bxg7
3. Nxf7+ Bxf7 (3… Kxh7? 4. Rxg7#)
4. Bxg7+ Kxh7
5. Qd3+ Kg8 (If 5… Bg6 6. Qxg6+ Kh8 7. Qg7#)
6. Bh6+ Kh8
7. Qc3+ Kh7 (the point of 5. Qd3+. After 5. Qe4+, there is no black square for white queen to deliver this check. Of course 5. Qc2+ would also work)
8. Qg7#
1.h7+! Kh8 2.Nxf7+!! Bxf7 3.h6! Bg6! 4.Qe7!! 1-0
No I think I’m wrong still it was a nice try !!
rgorn, you know the meaning of pattern recognition?
1. Qe4
Threatens Qh7# and if g6 then h7# and blocks checks on d5.
I.)
1. … Bd5
2. h7+ Kh8
3. Nxf7+ Bxf7
4. h6 (any)
5. Bxg7+ Bxg7
6. hxg7#
II.)
1. … f5
2. Qxe6+ Qxe6
3. Nxe6
White is much better due to the bishop pair and the pawns on h6 und h5, while the b2 pawn can be taken.
Bh7+ Kh8
hxg7+ Bxg7
Nf7+ BxN(If KxB then RxB #)
BxB+ KxB
Qf4+ Kg8
Bf6+ and soon mate should follow on d7 square (Q to g6 g7 and then d7 )
I really like 1. Qxe6 fxe6 2. h7+ Kh8 3. Nf7#
