Russian veteran GM, Vitaly Tseshkovsky won this very strong open, which took place on 16-25 March 2009 in Tashkent, the capital of
Uzbekistan.

This was an impressive achievement by the 64 year old Tseshkovsky! He was the sole winner of the 1986 USSR Championship, and in the 1978 Championship he shared first place with Tal. In 2004, Tseshkovsky qualified to the Russian championship superfinal, where he lost a much better or even winning position to Kasparov.
