GM Imre Hera of Hungary just received a $36,000 (out of state tuition) scholarship from Texas Tech University. He recently became a Grandmaster and his expected rating on the October 2007 FIDE list is 2544. He is expected to begin his study at Texas Tech next year.

Great news. You’re the only school so far stressing education instead of just winning in chess. Bravo!
Actually, other universities also do focus on academics. But unlike others, chess research, education and outreach will be our main focus. The chess team will be our secondary goal.
