Liang Registers for 7th Annual Okoboji Open
Awonder Liang, the USCF’s youngest Master in U.S. history has registered to play in the 7th Annual Okoboji Open. This will be the first Iowa appearance since 2008 for the record setting FIDE Master who won the 2011 World Under 8 year old chess championship. You can read about some of Liang’s exploits here. His younger brother, Adream Liang will also play.
This year’s tournament has an increased prize fund. International Master John Bartholomew will be playing and also giving a simul on Friday night. Bartholomew’s commitment at Okoboji gives Iowa’s premiere chess tournament an IM or stronger player for the 5th consecutive year.
The tournament host Arrowwod Resort has lowered the chess rate to $71 and has extended the deadline to April 12th. You can reserve your room at this low rate by calling the Resort at 712-560-0557. The Okoboji event is known for the best playing conditions in Iowa with a quiet playing hall and spacious for participants to have their own table. The event is directed by Senior TD, Hank Anzis, who does an excellent job providing daily reports and posting games to the web after each round.
