The Scotch Plains Public Library sponsored a chess tournament Dec. 11 for players in grades 3 through 8.

First place went to Dev Patel; finishing second were James Middleton, Rae Mikula and Harry Randazzo, while Josiah Baik finished third.

The tournament was organized by Render Cutts of Let’s Play Chess!, who supplied trophies for all players. John Moldovan, president of the Kenilworth Chess Club, volunteered his time to co-direct the event.
