They are the kings and queens of chess.

The Jersey City Kings Knight Chess Team won the Goldman Sachs Trophy Cup Monday, besting the Harlem Children Zone Team of New York City.

The local team is made up of young chess players from Jersey City and Bayonne, said Bobby Stewart, the founder of Kings Knight Chess Club Inc.

The Kings Knight team won the final one-round match 12 to 7, he said. The competition was held at the Goldman Sachs Building on the Jersey City waterfront.

The 26 members of the Kings Knight team who won medals are: Kirin Sawasdikosol, Krish Anand, Grace Leo, Fahd Nasser, Zohaib Malik, Austin Kishun, Christen Escudero, Anees Mobin, Haider Iqbal, Kendall Alvalez, Manoj Harikumar, Hank Portney, Willie J. Richardson, Sydney Tse, Jacob Tse, Abhina Vittal, Antin Demko, Mychajlo Demko, Kirtika Sharad, Matthew Hanna, Alla Abouelkheir, Duy Anh Nguyen, Robert Bulka, Jordan Hazelwood, Daniel Metrick and Jonathan Rosace.

Overjoyed by the team’s current win, Stewart is already planning for next year’s tournament. “I hope we can do this again, but we must be prepared because they (the Harlem Children’s Zone Chess Team) will come back even stronger,” he said.
