Xie, Jun with Xu, Yuhua (from Xie’s website)
With the Black pieces, Xu defeated Galliamova in the third game to capture the 2006 Women’s World Knockout Championship! The final score is 2.5 – 5. She was one of my pre-tournament favorites due to her experience with the knockout format. She won 2 World Cups with the same format before.

White had a difficult position to defend. However, the final mistake on move 43 was the last straw. Better would have been: 43.fxe6 Rg1+ 44.Bf1 fxe6 45.Rh5+ Kf6 46.Rh4 Ng3 47.Rf4+ Kg6 48.Bd2 =+
Congratulations to Xu, Yuhua! She certainly will not be the last Chinese who will win the Women’s Title.
Ni hao! Congratulations to Xu! Well done!
Congratulations to Xu! She is the only one who has won Women World Championship, Women World Cup and Women Olympic (3 times team member)!
Yoo-hoo-a! She must be good to win so many tournaments! Hope she got rich from playing chess!
Susan,
I read a recent post on Xie Jun’s blog in which she said that she read your interview with the Chinese media and she is also longing for a rematch with you. A rematch with you will be the only chance to draw her back to the competitive chess and she wishes that match will be her last one to end her career. What do you think, do you think a rematch would be possible.
Also, everyone is talking about the 12 year old Ho YiFan and people are starting to compare her with your sister, you and Xie. What do you think about her. She said one of her dreams is to be ranked 2600 above. Do you know how many female players have been ranked 2600 above.
Thanks,
Is there an American chess girl prodigy able of winning the Women’s World Chess Championship?
Hi Susan! I just wanted to know what you think of the KO system in tournaments?
