Rxd7 Kxd7 Qb7+ — Rf3 is a goner.
Rf3 is protected by Qf8 …
I’d root for 1.Qd5! (thr. 2.Qxd7#) e.g.
1.- Rf7 2.Rxd7 Rxd7 3.Qa8+ Kc7 4.Qxf8
Rxd7 followed by Qb7+ does work.
Although White can’t take the rook straight away, with the correct sequence of checks he can either force the black king to the f file (when he can take the rook) or force the king to a square which allows a bishop skewer.
No doubt I’m slow, but I don’t see that Black has an answer to Ra7.
Mark
1.Rxd7! wins Kxd7. 2. Qb7+ Ke6 2. Qc6+ and either the queen or the rook falls.
1. Rxd7 Kxd7
2. Qb7+
wins. If the BK go to the f-file, the Rook is gone, or if it goes to the a3-f8 diagonal, Bb4+ skewers the Q.
2 … Ke8
3. Qc6+ Kd8
4. Ba5+ Ke7
5. Bb4+
or
2 … Ke6
3. Qc6+
with similar effect.
Mark,
If 1. Ra7, where is the immediate win after 1… Qf7?
