The Opening Ceremony for the Topalov – Kramnik World Championship match took place yesterday in Elista. It looks like President Ilyumzhinov went all out to stage a spectacle. Let’s hope the match would be just as colorful and exciting!
From all the email that I received predicting the outcome of the match, 51% voted for Topalov, 48% voted for Kramnik and 1% decided to vote for Bugs Bunny.
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Susan, if you were advising the two players on strategy, what would you recommend?
First, breathe!!
Then, be creative and not afraid to use new surprises. The worst that could happen is when you play the same stuff that everyone knows you are going to play.
In my last WC match in 1996, I used 1.e4, something I did not play since I was a kid.
Best wishes,

Is there any chance that you will go for the world championship for women?
Sure, if the conditions are right. But when men are making $500,000 guaranteed for 12 games and often $2-3 million each match and women are getting $50-$60K, it is not worth training 8-10 hours a day for a year for a world championship match.
If FIDE is willing to put up $500,000 – $1,000,000 for the winner, you will probably see both Judit and I competing. Until then, my time is better spent promoting chess for young people.
Best wishes,

That raises an interesting possibility: a match between you two for the title. Talk about sibling rivalry! 🙂
The idea has been tossed around but FIDE has very little interest in promoting women’s chess. They are afraid of the Polgar sisters. They can’t be brought like others.
The problem isn’t unique to chess. In most sports, women earn less than men in comparable events.
hi suzy, nice newblog site, congratualations!
/Thank you very much for keeping us very informd about games and in this case this unique match that we’re about to witness. I woke very exiting this morning counting the hours to go before it gets started, dont let me down, ta.
i want to make more comments if u dont mind, ill try and keep them short.
1. It looks like a very nice ceremony, wish i sas there, but tks to u its like im there with the addition im comfrotable at chome. tks from the bottom of my heart.
2. wanted to ask u a couple of questions:
a- who do u think will win?
b- do u have a favourtite?
c- when’s u bday?
(I suppose i could p_e find that out since u a big star, but it would be nicer if u told me by mouth, wont it?!
About the comment u saying its not worth a individual match for the title ’cause fide wont pay as much as men
reading your comment i wonder, how can u study 8 hrs in a row? a y a super G girl? (A good film!), i couldnt do it i guess, is it a question of genes, because your use to hard work, autre?
well i guess i wont bore u more wiht my questions, but i appreciate it if u would answer me at least a coulple of ’em. I’m dying out of curiosity to know if u have a favourite?
I’m like ina uncomfortable position, i dont want any of the 2 two loose and i want both to win, so ill have to be impartial about it.
p.d. to add any material to u website to share with u public and fans -like me- , where or how do u
send y the material for y to use it,if u think its good?
ok what time is rght now in NY?
bye.
dont forget to breathe…
I didn’t see any links to the south texas chess center in Corpus Christi center in the new wbsite.
susan,
51% for Topalov and 48% for Kramnik – wow! that’s news to me.
I thought you and I were the only ones in the world giving Topalov a chance :-). But then again the Topalov supporters may have been too embarrassed to reveal their identity that they decided to use email.
Seriously, 51/48 seems quite right!
Women getting 50-60k!! I had no clue that was the case. It is pathetic. I can see why you wouldn’t want to spend time training.
But I see good changes in the future .Globalization, Internet, Computer Chess and now this unifying championship are all things headed in the right direction for chess.
regards.
What openings do you recommend bugs bunny play? Do they differ if he plays kramnik versus if he plays topalov?
Carrot-Kann, Acme Co. Variation.
(do you think I’d sign this?)
I predict Kramnik will win, but nice suit on Topalov during the opening ceremony.
