World Amateur Chess Championship 2011

The World Amateur Chess Championship 2011 is currently under way in Antalya, Turkey, from 1st till 11th October 2011.

67 players from 16 countries (Albania, Brazil, Colombia, Croatia, Egypt, France, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mongolia, Netherlands, Russia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Turkey and the United States) are taking part in the event.

The participants of the tournament have no FIDE title or published FIDE Rating above 2000 at the start of the tournament. They also should not have such a rating for at least 2 years before to the start of the event.

The tournament is played in Swiss system with 9 rounds and the time control of the games is 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move one.

Rounds will be played at 4 pm everyday and all games can be followed online on the virtual stadiums of Turkish Chess Federation.

After two rounds 16 players have an absolute result but the main challengers will appear in the next rounds. News and photos by Anastasya Karlovich.
