In the Alexander the Great Open white pieces dominated on the top four boards. GM Dejan Antic defeated the earlier leader GM Kivanc Haznedaroglu after a fine positional squeeze, while GM Petar Drenchev converted the extra piece into a full point in the game against Nikolaos Galopoulos.

GM Athanasios Mastrovasilis won against IM Rasmus Skytte and IM Malcolm Pein punished the risky opening choice of WGM Andjelija Stojanovic.
