The Individual Polish Chess Championships 2016 for men and women were held from 29 March to 7 April in Poznan, Poland.
Both sections were played as 10-player round robin tournaments.
GM Monika Soćko convincingly won the women’s championship with 7/9 points leaving the nearest follower WGM Jolanta Zawadzka a full point behind. This is the 7th national title for Soćko, after 1995, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2013 and 2014.
In the men’s section the top rated GM Radosław Wojtaszek won the competition with 6,5/9 points, half a step ahead of GM Kacper Piorun. This is third national title for Wojtaszek, who also won the trophy in 2005 and 2014.
Last year champion GM Grzegorz Gajewski finished last, coming directly from the Candidates Tournament where he was second of Viswanathan Anand.
