Humpy Koneru wins the Ankara Women’s Grand Prix but she lost the big battle. She finished third overall in the Grand Prix standings and therefore lost out the right to challenge Women’s World Champion Hou Yifan again for the title. By finishing second, Anna Muzychuk earned enough points to finish in second place overall.
Correction: According to FIDE rules, only the top 3 results will count. (Grand prix points were then allocated according to each player’s standing in the tournament: 160 grand prix points for first place, 130 for second place, 110 for third place, and then 90 down to 10 points by steps of 10. In case of a tie in points the grand prix points are shared evenly by the tied players. Players only counted their best three tournament results. The player with the most grand prix points is the winner.)
Anna Muzychuk has the 2nd most points overall. However, by eliminating the worst results of the 4 events and only counting the best three, Humpy Koneru finished 2nd. She will therefore earn the right to play for the title again.

Koneru Humpy – top 3 = 160+ 145 + 110= 415
Anna Muzychuk – top 3 = 145 + 130 + 130 = 405( assuming runner up being here earned her 130 points.

This is only if Hou Yifan win the 2012 women world chess championship. In case if anyone else gets the 2012 title, Hou Yifan will be the challenger.
They should play each other to challenge the champion.
Congrats to Humpy, but great pity for chess public. Who wants to witness another battle between Hou and Humpy?? Hou owns Humpy!. Muzychuk would have been a refreshing challenger for the World title. Hou Yifan must be breathing easy now. No sweat.
If Anna gets the champion in FIDE world women championship which will start in November, who will challenge Yifan?
The WGP winner has the right to challenge the Women’s World Champion. If Anna wins the coming WWCC she will be the new champion, this is unrelated to WGP results. Then Yifan will challenge Anna in 2013 for the title, since she is the WGP winner. If, however, Yifan wins the WWCC in 2012, Humpy will be her challenger, since Humpy is the 1st runner up.
