McCain to Congratulate Obama in Campaign Ad Tonight

Both Barack Obama and John McCain have pledged to change the partisan tone in Washington, and McCain will take a step toward that end in a congratulatory ad, “Convention Night,” to air this evening on national cable and battleground states.
“Senator Obama, this is truly a good day for America. Too often the achievements of our opponents go unnoticed. So I wanted to stop and say, congratulations,” McCain says in the ad, “How perfect that your nomination would come on this historic day. Tomorrow, we’ll be back at it. But tonight senator, job well done.”

Mccain is making reference to the fact that Sen. Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech has taken place on the same day (August 28) forty five years later as what is considered on of the greatest speech ever given in America and a defining moment in history. The ” I have a Dream ” speech given by Rev. Martin Luther King. And in Dr. King’s speech he foretells of a moment in America’s history where the country would live up to it’s ideals. The nomination of Barack Obama and the broad support he has received based on his character symbolic of the ideals of which Dr. King spoke.
“And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.”
“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’
Dr. King said that one day a person would be judged not by his skin color but rather by the content of his character.
John Mccain voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1990 and originally was against a holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King but has since stated he was mistaken.
