Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
My chess really dropped off, but a few months ago I discovered online chess sites and I haven’t looked back. Tremendous fun.
All of the above. But aside from playing, the greatest excitement is watching live games between super gm’s
I try to avoid playing online chess; it’s so addicitive. I work at a computer all day and I would probably get very little done if I gave into that habit. I try to do a chess puzzle a day (as well as a crossword puzzle) just to keep my mind sharp. It’s only because of the repair of the WCC rift that I got into analyzing games again as well as following the chess news in depth.
Great blog!
It’s wonderful to know that there are other people who are into chess (as much as I am)!
By the way…
If you, or any of your blog’s visitors, are interested in improving your chess playing skills (using tested & proven strategies)…then you should check out my new chess book: Chess Success Secrets.
Not only will my book help you improve your game…
But you can also earn an excellent income just by telling your friends, family, co-workers (and anyone else who loves playing chess) about it.

Chess Success Secrets
i like solving tactical chess puzzles – i always try it by looking at the position, without movement of any piece (but to improve my otb chess skills it is a proven fact to me – that it is better to build up a given position on a real chess board, than solving the puzzle in 2-d, which is – for some strange reason – easier to me …)
i also like to “invent” new moves in openings – equipped with my knowledge, my chess software and a lot of good real (not virtual) chess friends around me – i’m not a master, but even on a non master level some inventions – especially for non masters – could be made (i’m not searching for the truth …)
i love endgame studies – and it is a pleasure to work them out, with and without software, with and without tablebases – call me a moron – but it is so…
i’m a club player – we play rated games around 20 a year – it is unfair – in my eyes – to compare club level playing with playing in the park … e.g. the chess bundesliga in germany has nothing to do with park or club playing in manhatten … and even chess in a lower class in germany is not on a coffee house – level (e.g. kreisliga – the second lowest team level in germany – of oberfranken-ost has a dwz = comparable to uscf rating / elo average of about 1800 … so, no chess dweeps at all…)
i enjoy watching online events
i HAVE enjoyed online playing – but there are too many computers around – so i stopped it – and play online only if i’m drunk (then it does not matter to me, if i’m winning or losing – yes, i even managed it to win against chess software not on 5/0 but on 2/10 increments… ^^)
very most of all i like “man vs. man” over the board – classical time control (of course, some of my opponents were female – and i’ve lost one game against a little gal, not because she got me, but because of the tears in her eyes – i’m a soft one …^^) – i’ve lost only two tournament games since 2003 (when i started playing chess for a club again, after a pause of 12 years).
i like reading about chess, i like talking about chess, i like analyzing chess games … i like blogging, i like boards….
i am addicted to chess
– there is no cure – i’m sure… :((
The mating (no pun now) part of chess. I like to bang my Queen in front of my opponent’s King and shout ‘checka mate mate!’
Bobby F. too loves seeing his opponents ‘squirm’!
I love reading about chess, and I enjoy games online and via email (for the few who still play correspondence chess). Face to face would be fun, but tournament entry fees are just too much, particularly if on has to travel far enough that an overnight stay is required, too.
@last anonym – ‘u are a queen abuser … and by the way – if caissa let you a knight and a bishop to mate – what will your shout be?
with GM R.J.Fischer:
“i’ll retire from chess!”
with Frank Murphy:
“Staunton did me wrong!”
with Harry Nelson Pillsbury:
“wellcome shining bright!”
or, most probably with your own mirror image:
“i agree in a draw!”
^^
Susan, I enjoy your blog and the chess puzzles you post. I do enjoy visiting other sites for news and games. I follow live events on playchess.com, which I enjoy the most. I recently analyzed one of Judit’s games with another blogger. That was fun! Playing online? I do horrible for some reason. I think some players are not honest about their true strength or they’re using assistance…this makes the whole experience less than enjoyable. However, that having been said, I play on Yahoo and Playchess. What I would like to see discussed on this blog is: How do you set-up a computer for chess? What I mean is a true dedicated chess computer. What programs do you need and what are your recommendations. Which programs can I remove to increase memory and which processes can be safely stopped. My notebook is bogged down with junk I don’t think needs to be there, but I really don’t know.
As much as I love the game of chess, I’m equally as fascinated with chess history (specifically great players from the early eras). Another wonderful topic is the progression of chess theory from around Philidor’s time onward.

dump the notebook and hook up your Fritz 10 to Blue Gene/L a 5.7-teraflop single-rack version of a new system, called the eServer Blue Gene Solution 🙂

i like to deflate my rating online and then surprise people with “higher” rating by beating them.
Besides the enjoyment of the game itself, I get a tremendous amount of enjoyment from regarding my fine chess sets for the works of art that they are. I like to change them out frequently on my display table. Gareth Williams’ book is a great example of the artistic nature of Chess.
I like to see the showing of personalities by the players as well as the spectators. No other sport shows as much and as close to real life behavior.
I enjoy TEACHING CHESS to my daughters. They are 5 and 6 yrs. We have so much TIME together, FUN together, the same PASSION together especially when they fight in their chess tournament game. I can touch and feel how their intellectual develop day by day!
They love me more because we get so CLOSED together.(all parents who teaches chess to their children will know how it feels)
I enjoy playing in a club, playing online, reading chess books, reading chess magazines, reading chess news on this blog and at the chessbase website.
But what I enjoy most are chess forums like the german http://www.schachfeld.de/
