1. Qxb7+ Rxb7 2. Rd8+ Qc8 3.Rxc8#
1.Bb7+ Rxb7
2.Re8+ Dd8
3.Rxd8+ Rb8
4.Dxb8 (Rxb8)mate
I think this is a good way.
1. Qxb7+ Rxb7
2. Rd8+ Qc8 (unique)
3. Rxc8 # 1-0.
A bit too easy for a Wednesday 🙂
QxPch and mate in two more
Bxb7+!!
I agree with Jorg- this is a tactic for a late Friday night/early Saturday morning after too many margaritas. Of course, white needs to choose carefully that first move! 1.Qb7 loses since black captures the queen with check. Correct is to take with the bishop:
1. Bb7 Rb7
2. Rd8 and mate follows in one or two more moves.
Qxb7+ is the key move & mate in 3
1. Bxb7+ Rxb7 2. Rd8+ Qc8 3. Rxc8#
Isn’t 1…Rxb7 check? If so, you can’t play 2. Rd8+ after 1. Qxb7+. Maybe 1. Bxb7+ Rxb7, 2. Rd8+ Rb8, 3. Q(or R)xb8# instead?
Um Qxb7+?? Rxb7 is CHECK.
Instead: Bxb7+! Rxb7 Rd8+ leads to mate.
Too easy! I think that is one of the 10-rated problems on CT-Art.
1. Qxb7+ Rxb7 (only move)
2. Rd8+ Qc8 (the Rook is pinned by the bishop)
3. Rxc8#
Bg2xb7+ Rb8xb7
Rd1-d8+ Qc5-c8
Rd8xc8+ Rb7-b8
Qb2xb8#
it’s amazing that you all got it wrong… you can’t play Qxb7 because after Rxb7, you are in check lol
1.Bxb7+ Rxb7
2.Rd8+ Rb8
3.Qxb8#
OR
1.Bxb7+ Rxb7
2.Rd8+ Qc8
3.Rxc8+ Rb8
4.Rxa8#
– From MR KO (Malaysian)
A bit easier than usual 🙂
1. Qxb7+ RxQ
2. Rd8+ Qc8
3. RxQ#
This is not so simple a problem. All
posters so far have missed that after
Qxb7 then Rxb7 is a check, so Rd8 is
an illegal move. White is three pawns
down with black’s c pawn attacking the
white Queen and very near to promotion.
So, instead of Qxb7, start with:
1.Bxb7+ Rxb7
2.Rd8+ Qc8
3.Rxc8+ Rb8
4.Rxb8# or
4.Qxb8#
Funny indeed!
Second solution :
1.Fxb7+ Rxb7
2.Rd8+ Qc8
3.Rxc8+ Rb8
4.Rxb8# or Qxb8#
It isn’t the fastest, but this is not a problem (pun intended)
It’s a bit tougher than some of you think.
1 Qb7+?? loses, because Black recaptures with check.
However, White can still mate quickly:
1 Bxb7+! Rxb7
There’s a big difference here. White’s Queen stands in between her King and the enemy Rook, allowing White to make the next move.
2 Rd8+ Rb8
Of course, Black can forestall mate by a move by interposing the Queen.
3 Rxb8# or Qxb8#
