Wesley So has made history with his win today over Polish GM Marcin Dziuba. His new LIVE rating is 2701.4. He has become the 1st Filipino and American collegiate player to break the 2700 mark. It is a double achievement for Wesley!
Since coming to Webster University last Fall (August 2012) to join the SPICE program, he has worked very hard to improve on his chess. Hard work has paid off and Wesley gained around 50 points. He continues to stay at the top of the leaderboard in Reykjavik with one more round to go. He has also passed Yu Yangyi to become the #2 junior in the world.
Congratulations to Wesley and the Philippines for this excellent achievement!
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Way to go Wesley! You really made us proud Wesley “The Wes Shark” So! ^.^
We are proud of you Wesley!!!
We are proud of you Wesley!!!
And thank you Ms. Susan!!!
Congratulations Wesley! Ms. Polgar, I noticed Wesley often reads something in a note card when he plays. Do you know something about it?
Marcin blunders in a wining position. Wisely still need to prove he can be a super GM.
You sound like an idiot. At what point was Marcin winning? He’s defending for his life and at best would draw. He was never winning.
Wesley’s achivement was made possible under your tutelage Susan. Congratulations!
U sound like an idiot too. Go and get Magnus to analyse the game.
If you say Marcin is winning, at what point was he winning. all the engines are saying a drawish position. If you need to get magnus to analyze the position that means you don’t know yourself that if and where the winning position was. You are just a patzer like the rest of us so don’t try to sound like you understand the position and declare it to be winning because you DON’T KNOW… otherwise you would just have pointed out the exact winning position. who is the idiot now?
Hey everyone, stay civil. 🙂 go Wesley!
its not important that you win by a blunder or not what matter the most in tournament is you win…
This is a complex game, how can you be so sure? either youe rating is above 2900 or your IQ is below 50.
Congrats to Susan Polgar’s successful coaching too =)
Go Wesley 🙂 Beat ’em all. We are proud of you. Susan thanks to you.
Wesley needs to face tougher opponents, not just 2500+ players, if he is to reach his potential. Unfortunately, one has to be invited to the top tournaments for that to happen. He has already proven that he can beat or draw (with) the likes of Ivanchuk, Kamsky, and Shirov. I hope that by reaching the 2700 mark and because of his age, tournament organizers will finally notice him and start inviting him to the top tournaments. After all, if Hou Yifan can be given the chance to face Carlsen et al, why not a young up-and-coming 2700 player?
Congratulations Wesley and thanks Susan for support. He needs now more support for upcoming tournaments to maintain on top level. He needs to have a good team to prepare him for every opponent he would encounter. To be on top you just need preparation, preparation and preparation.

Wesley is very young yet. More improvement will come along his way especially now that he will compete more often with those who has higher elo rating than him. Goodluck Wesley.
