Webster Alumnus Named to Joint Chiefs of Staff, Highest Post in U.S. Air Force

Webster University alumnus Gen. Mark A. Welsh III has been sworn in as the highest-ranking officer in the U.S. Air Force.

As the new Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force in Washington, D.C., Gen. Welsh is the senior uniformed Air Force officer. In his command duties, he will oversee the organization, training and equipping of 690,000 active-duty members of the Air Force, Guard, Reserve and civilian forces who serve in the U.S. and overseas.

Welsh and chiefs of the other four branches of the military also serve as military advisers to the President, the Secretary of Defense and the National Security Council.

Prior to his swearing in ceremony at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington D.C., Welsh was Commander, U.S. Forces in Europe.
