I think 1. d4
He uses 1.d4 when he wants to defend and 1.e4 when he needs a win. So I guess he will play the latter, unless being stronger in rapid chess (he has better scores in rapid and blind chess against Shirov), he decides not to risk in this game.
gata going all the way!
Go Fischer!
Shirov will win!
Probably e4
Game so far:
1.e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 e5 4. Bc4 Be7 5. d3 d6 6. Nd2 Bg5 7. Qh5 Nh6 8. h3 Nd4 9. O-O O-O 10. Nb3 Bxc1 11. Raxc1 Ne6 12. Ne2 Qf6 13. Nd2 Kh8 14. c3 g5 15. d4 Rg8 16. dxe5 dxe5 17. Nf3 Rg6 18. h4
Kamsky has a very slight edge.

You can watch the game right now!!
Iam surprised with Gata’s opening. I doubt it can create any problem at that level. Already I do not share the view he has an edge after h4 … but the contrary. I think Shirov will win the match quite easily. But his comeback is the mark of the great anyway
19 Rad1 occupies the d file. On 19…gxh4 20 Nxe5 Rxg2+ 21 Kh1 Rg5 22 Qxh6! Qxh6 23 Nxf7+ Kg7 24 Nxh6 Kxh6 25 f4 looks like a win.
Time running low for both.
Game in Progress – it is now 8:01am
1.e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 e5 4. Bc4 Be7 5. d3 d6 6. Nd2 Bg5 7. Qh5 Nh6 8. h3 Nd4 9. O-O O-O 10. Nb3 Bxc1 11. Raxc1 Ne6 12. Ne2 Qf6 13. Nd2 Kh8 14. c3 g5 15. d4 Rg8 16. dxe5 dxe5 17. Nf3 Rg6 18. h4 Qg7 19. Bxe6 Bxe6 20. hxg5 f6
Looks equal….who knows?????
KAMSKY JUST WON OFFICIALLY
1-0!!!!!!!!!!
WAY TO GO KAMSKY!!!!! YOU DID IT!!
KAMSKY WINS KAMSKY WINS!!!!!!
Kamsky just won the second game brillantly
Kamsky won!!!!!!!! What a game!!!!!
He totally crushed Shirov!!!!! It amazes me that some people were so sure Shirov would win. I was reading a live commentary by a Russian GM and he kept putting exclamation marks for Shirov’s moves, almost up to the point when Shirov resiged. Go Kamsky!!!!!
Forgive my ignorance….but now that Kamsky won, does he play Topalov in the near future?
How has FIDE worked this out? Can someone please let me know.
Many Thanks!

He didn’t win the match yet, there are 4 games in the final and he leads 1.5-0.5 now with good chances to win..
I understand now…Many thanks to you for such a quick reply. Being up 1 point….all Kamsky has to do is draw each remaining game.
The odds are certainly in his favor and I do hope he wins…but you never know.
Good luck GM Kamsky!
I am so glad to hear of this!
GATA KAMSKY all the WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
