Chess team in Washington Township excels in competition

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Members of the Bells Elementary School Chess Team has spent the past three months participating in nationally ranked tournaments in Wayne, Pa., through the Silver Knights Chess League. The league is comprised of private chess academies, private schools, charter schools and public schools from the Delaware Valley, but primarily from Montgomery and Bucks counties in Pennsylvania. Students from kindergarten through eighth grade compete.

On Sunday, March 20, four teams of Bells students competed in the finals of the Silver Knights Tournament.

Team A (Jeffrey Ferraino, Brian Campana, Nathan D’Alfonso, Andrew Silver) came in fourth overall.

Team B (Hunter Gogoj, Kevin Palmisano, Matt Davis, Nick Gushue) came in ninth.

Team C (Ashrit Verma, Ryan Jackson, Drew Conlin, Michael McCoy) came in 13th.

Team D (Muhammed Emanet, Anthony Scenna, Joshua Wang, Scott Emerson) came in 11th.

Bells’ Team A was the highest-placing public school team in the tournament. Of the placing teams received team trophies, which they presented to the school on Monday morning.
