Vietnam women’s chess team crowned Asian champions

Nhan Dan – The 2009 Asian Team Chess Championship, held in India ended yesterday in flying colour for the Vietnam women’s team.
Masters Le Thanh Tu. Nguyen Thi Thanh An, Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung and Hoang Thi Nhu Y helped the women’s team win the championship title. India A and Iran occupied the second and third places respectively.

On their way to the championship, the Vietnam’s women team defeated Bangladesh (3-1), India B (3-1), Iran (2,5 – 1,5), Singapore (3,5 – 0,5), Indonesia (3,5 – 0,5), Nepal (4-0) and were only held draw with India A (2-2).

Meanwhile, the India A team topped the men’s competition. The Vietnam team with masters Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Bui Vinh, Dao Thien Hai, Nguyen Anh Dung, snatched the silver. The bronze went to Iran.

The 2009 Asian Team Chess Championship hosted by the All India Chess Federation opened on December 22 had drawn the participation of 93 region-leading masters from ten male and nine female teams.
