The Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture will present on Monday March 18th a program that will focus chess as a tool for social, cultural, educational and community development.

The project aims to organize and achieve the highest level of interaction between the initiatives that have been deployed on different areas of the country.

The goal is to position chess as an educational and cultural tool that reaches the whole country, and as a personal development model, with special attention to disadvantaged social sectors. It will also contribute to the project of building a new model of coexistence.

The launch of the project will coincide with the arrival of the ex World Champion Veselin Topalov with his manager and current President of the European Chess Union, Silvio Danailov.

A year ago, on March 15th 2012, Danailov made intensive efforts in this subject. He succeeded and the European Parliament made a resolution to recommend the member countries to incorporate chess into their educational curricula.

Besides visiting schools where chess is included as a subject, a press conference will be given to explain the scope of the initiative.
