This champioship was successfully developed thanks to the sponsorship of FIDE President Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, who created this tournament to increase the bonds of friendship between the Central American countries. This year the venue of the fifth edition was Managua city, Republic of Nicaragua.

The championship was held in the tournament hall Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, located in the Chess Academy Julio Ramirez de Arellano, founded in 1994.

Teams from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama, participated in the open and women’s categories. Costa Rica only participated in the open category.

The inauguration of this great event was presided by Mr. Jorge Vega Fernández, president of FIDE America and personally delegated by FIDE President, Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov; Dr. Guy J. Bendaña Guerrero, President of Nicaragua National Chess Federation (FENANIC-FENICA) and member of the Bureau of the Social Action Commission of FIDE and Ing. Roger Conrado, treasurer of FENANIC-FENICA and organizer of this championship. The Chief Arbiter was FA Pablo Moraga Obando, and the deputy arbiters were FA Eneo Sánchez and FA Gerardo Avellán.

Closing ceremony

Once given the trophies and medals, Dr. Guy Jose Bendaña-Guerrero thanked FIDE President and Honorary President of FENANIC-FENANIC, Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov for his patronage; the international arbiter Jorge Vega Fernandez, President of FIDE America for his support, as well as the teams and Central American Chess Federations for their participation in this championship, the arbiters and administrative staff working in this tournament.
