Why is California split? If it wasn’t, it would be #1.
Because they hate each other and can’t stand each other. So they rather split than to work together.
Wow! I live in Arizona and I would have never known it was in the top ten. There are barley any chess players in the city where I live (100,000 people) and only one lousy chess club. I would love to start another club here, just unsure how to go about it.
Maybe it would be better if you try to get involved and improve the lousy one
Where is Massachusetts on the list?
Mass is at 15 with 1911. Maryland is 14 with 2070. North Carolina is at 13 with 2207.
Best wishes,

So you know where to move if you like chess!!
how many USCF members are there in total?
In Australia we have about 3000 registered players in total.
“Why is California split?”
Ahh, soon you will suffer from desperado states, looks like it. USA will dissolve into three-four states. Justice will prevail.
Wow, so many members in all states!! Just wonderful. Thanks to Susan and friends, these numbers will double in the next decade. Chess will be played in all homes and we will love all our neighbors.
We need to make a new Battle Chess video game. Susan can be the Queen, Paul can be the King, and the red lion can be the head to form Voltron, defender of the Universe!
Just out of curiosity, how many members in Kentucky? I assume it will be toward the bottom of the list…Rich
Do you know where the full list is on the USCF web site? It’s very interesting.
