Today’s matchups for US Teams:
#5 USA vs. #9 India (Women) India’s #1 GM Koneru is resting!!!
3.1 WGM Zatonskih Anna 2433 – WGM Harika Dronavalli 2358 1/2-1/2
3.2 IM Krush Irina 2437 – WGM Swathi Ghate 2262 1-0
3.3 WGM Goletiani Rusudan 2371 – WIM Gomes Mary Ann 2239 1-0
US won 2.5-.5! This is an excellent round for the US to stay in the hunt. It is very strange the Humpy is sitting out this round. Without Humpy, India has no chance!
#7 USA vs. #31 Sweden (Overall)
Kamsky and Onischuk are NOT playing!!! I just don’t get this. This was our chance to pick up points and move closer to the top. Now, it looks like the match will end up in a tie (unless Ibragimov can miraculously hold on to a lost endgame) and we will drop even further back!
Update: US team ties for the first time and drops even further back
4.1 GM Nakamura Hikaru 2664 – GM Agrest Evgenij 2570 1/2-1/2
4.2 GM Ibragimov Ildar 2637 – GM Berg Emanuel 2539 0-1
4.3 GM Kaidanov Gregory 2603 – GM Hillarp-Persson Tiger 2524 1-0
4.4 GM Akobian Varuzhan 2575 – IM Carlsson Pontus 2433 1/2-1/2
Is Humpy playing this time? I thought she was.
Yes, Humpy is playing board 1 for India.
Best wishes,

WE WIN 2,5:0.5 USA CHAMPION!
USA is the best!! This may prove our best womens team ever!!! With Susan, we would have won the Olympiad with a many points difference!!
Susan, can you scan and post your GrandMaster diploma? I am sure many of would love to see it!
It looks like most of the best players just sit out once in a while regardless of country. I think this is odd also. Would an olympic swimmer travel that far just to sit on the side of the pool with their feet in the water?
Chess cannot be compared well with other sports.
Varuzhan-Pontus, 1/2-1/2??? Varuzhan is going to smash on him.
The WGM title is so eggarated, that most don’t even realize that a WGM is a strength of a weak man FM, both needing 2300 elo to make the title.
Having women underrated on the FIDE site by placing their weak titles (WGM), instead of GM (10x stronger) is a mistake needing immediate correction,
According to:
http://www.fide.com/official/officials.asp?f=5
Our FIDE representative in the FIDE Titles Committee is Ms. Dimitrijevic? Never heard of her. Mr. Jarecki is another one. What is their job anyway? Do they have salaries in FIDE? Will they be replaced of Kok wins?
Go USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha, almost all have photos except Dimitrijevic and Jarecki! Are they ghosts?
“Kamsky and Onischuk are NOT playing!!! I just don’t get this.”
Susan, if you were never a Captain at an Olympiad, I can understand your confusion.
On the other hand, can USCF quickly fire the men’s Captain, and give the Women’s Captain both teams to handle?
Why Mongolia?
Humpy went shopping with Onischuk and Kamsky. Turin has a lot of nice shops. Now all is clear. Hehehe, these Olympiad Captains know nothing about Captaining.
Has ever a woman been a Captain or Trainer of a men’s Olympiad team?
“Would an olympic swimmer travel that far just to sit on the side of the pool with their feet in the water?”
Chess Captains are much smarter. Olympic swimmers have no captains, it’s a no-brain sport. How can you even compare?
I dont understand this, either. Why do you teams rest their top players in crucial matches ? USA rested Kamsky and Onischuk, India rested Humpy ! And they both paid for it !
“Kamsky and Onischuk are NOT playing!!! I just don’t get this.”
Even with th 4 reserves US team was much, much better than their opponents, so, no big deal for resting 1st 2. The bigger problem is, why did our 2600 boys not win much lower rated boys from the other team? That is what I want to know!
Humpy was scared of Anna, Anna must have beaten her many times before.
Go USA!!!!
I remember Fischer played ALL GAMES except between Friday Sundown to Saturday Sundown due to his religious beliefs at time. Susan played ALL GAMES in Olympiad also. Some players are professionals who take chess seriously, some do not. Whoever is US Team Captain (Men’s) should step down and let Susan captain. She is professional, knowledgeable and experienced in international tournaments. We need to get new USCF leaders to utilize the great talent we have EFFECTIVELY instead of bypassing.
Oh, boy, is that well said or what?
haha the US did better against China than they did against Sweden!
Of course the US had both Kamsky and Onischuk against China.
