Century West Chess Open

Century West Chess Open, a renewed Southern California Chess Federation event, is set to take place on 11-13th January at the Radisson LAX, 6225 West Century Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90045.

The event will be FIDE rated and held in five sections: Open, Premier, Amateur, Reserve and Booster. All sections will be played over 5 rounds of Swiss system.

The prize fund will be $$10,000 based on 165 entries and 80% of each prize is guaranteed.

Open: $$1700-750-400-300-200, U2400 400, U2200 700-300-200.
Premier (under 2000): $$750-300-200-100.
Amateur (Under 1800): $$750-300- 200-100.
Reserve (Under 1600): $$750-300-200-100.
Booster (Under 1400/unrated): $$400-200-100, U1200 150, Unr 150. (Unrated may win Unrated prizes only.)

3-day schedule: Reg ends Fri 6 pm, rds. Fri 7 pm, Sat 11 & 6, Sun 10 & 4:15.

The Tennessee Winter Open Chess Tournament is taking place on 12-13th January at the beautiful Henry Horton State Park Resort in Chapel Hill, Tennessee.

The event will be held in four sections: Kings (open to all), Queens U1800, Rooks U1400 and Pawns U1000.

All sections will be completed over five rounds of Swiss system. The prize fund is $2,000 guaranteed.

Atlanta Winter Classic 2013
 
The Atlanta Winter Classic 2013 is set to take place on 19th January at the Little Five Points Community Center, 1083 Austin Ave NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30307.

The tournament will be held over five rounds of Swiss system with the time control G/30. The prize fund is $680 based on 32 paid entries. GMs and IMs can enroll for free (no deduction from prize).

Prizes: $200-100-50, U2200 $95, U2000 $85, U1700 $75, biggest upset $75 GTD.

Land of the Sky XXVI in Asheville, North Carolina
 
Land of the Sky XXVI is set to take place on 25-27th January at the Crowne Plaza Resort Asheville, One Resort Dr, in Asheville, North Carolina 28806.

The event will have four sections: Open, Asheville, Buncombe, U12. All sections will be played over five rounds of Swiss system and Open will be rated with FIDE.

The prize fund is projected at $20,000 based on 320 paid entries. $11,000 is minimum, while in the Open section 2/3 of the prizes are guaranteed.

Open section prizes: $2,400, $1,200, $600, $500, $400; U2300 – $600, $300.

Additional events include Chess960 and Blitz tournaments, Lectures and Grandmaster Simuls.
