There are also upsets in the Women’s Olympiad. Russia A team, the #1 seed and almost a lock to win Gold, barely got by Bosnia & Herzegovina (ranked 43) with the score of 2.5-1.5. Russia B team, another team which is capable of winning Gold, squeaked by 48th ranked Turkey 2.5 – 1.5.
20th ranked Czech Republic scored the big upset by beating 7th ranked Armenia 2.5 – 1.5.
22nd ranked Latvia defeated 11th ranked France 2.5 – 1.5.
There were some other upsets but the big ones are listed above.
In the mean time, China, led by the young Chinese Chess Queen Hou Yifan, beat Norway 3.5 – 1.5.
