IM Alfonso Almeido scored an upset victory against GM Axel Bachmann of UTB and a last round win against Denker Champion Warren Harper to capture the SPNO International section. There were players from 7 countries participating. Just as all the other sections, Alfonso also received a laptop computer in addition to his cash prize and championship trophy. In spite of the loss in the 4th round, Axel led UTB to the top college team prize.
Each full scholarship (including housing) is worth around $65,000. Special thanks to Texas A&M Kingsville for the 2 full scholarships!
