Round 6 Women’s Olympiad general summary

At one point, it looked like the Ukrainian women would beat Russia 3-1. Ukraine had strong advantage on the top 3 boards while having a worse position on board 4. Lahno was the first to score for Ukraine on board 1. However, time pressure doomed Ukraine. Zhukova blundered and had to settle for a draw on board 2. Ushenina blundered and lost on board 3. Russian veteran Galliamova once again delivered a clutch win on board 4 to give Russia a 2.5 – 1.5 win.

U.S. no match for Georgia. The U.S. women’s team suffered a devastating blow to their medal hope by losing to Georgia this round.

The biggest shocker of this round is Hungary defeating a very strong Polish team 4-0! Everything went wrong for Poland. A win for Hungary was not a surprise. But this score is simply stunning! This kind of wipe out almost never happens with strong teams.
