International Championship of Central Serbia
Mikhail Ulibin winner, GM norms for Marko Nenezic and Sinisa Saric

The 4th International Chess Festival “Sport Summer 2011” took place on July 8-15th in Hotel “Petrus” in Paraćin, Serbia. The main event was International Championship of Central Serbia, a 9-round Swiss tournament with FIDE time control.

There were two events, OPEN A for players rated higher then 2100 and OPEN B for lower rated players. In addition, the 7th “Uroš Dinić” Memorial was held on Sunday, July 10th, as 15-min rapid tournament.

The Open A had 107 participants from 20 countries, among them 12 Grandmasters and 20 International Masters. GM Mikhail Ulibin (2538), the only Russian in the field, confidently won the first place with 7.5 points.

The biggest surprise was the accomplishment of the 16-years old untitled junior Marko Nenezic (2274) who shared the second place to earn a GM norm and 65 rating points with the elo performance of 2646!

IM Sinisa Saric from Novi Sad outplayed GM Igor Miladinovic in his favourite Chigorin defence and also shared the second place and claimed the GM norm. Full standings bellow.

The Open B had 126 players from six countries. Candidate Masters Slobodan Tomic (Serbia), Misa Hrenic and Marjan Drobne (both Slovenia) shared the first place with 7.5 points each.
