UiT – The Arctic University of Norway is a new major sponsor for the Chess Olympiad 2014 in Tromsø.

Chess Olympiad 2014 and UiT – The Arctic University of Norway are becoming partners and in doing so will continue their collaboration from the World Cup 2013.

Børge Robertsen, Managing Director of Chess Olympiad Tromsø 2014, says this is a good agreement for all parties. “This agreement is worth millions. It involves competence, infrastructure and finances. The university has also a very powerful internet connection that we need. The milieu there will help to ensure that we manage to deliver the quality we should,” says Robertsen.

Robertsen says this is a new way of thinking when it comes to collaboration and sponsorship. “This agreement is very important. First, we have in place two major sponsors, and the university is a national and international player that represents the same values that chess does. The university is also the foremost symbol of knowledge in the north, as is the Chess Olympiad.”

“This can contribute to the university gaining international exposure and showcasing its expertise to the world. They may also attract more students to the city,” says Robertsen.

Chess Olympiad Tromsø 2014 now has two major sponsorship agreements – with UiT and Sparebanken Nord-Norge.

“We are well on track now. So we are very optimistic about what lies ahead, this bodes well. But we clearly want more partners to provide the boost we need at the international level.”
