Two major shocks

TWO shock results dominated day three of the 35th Intertrust Guernsey International Chess Festival, as both grandmaster Oleg Korneev and international master Robert Bellin lost their matches against amateur opposition.

IM Bellin fell victim to Samuel Franklin, a 15-year-old rising star from England in a ferocious attacking battle.

Meanwhile, it appeared that grandmaster Korneev had reached a drawn position against Wolfgang Mack, but decided to push for a win and over-stretched himself.

The grandmaster’s German opponent seized his opportunity and held his nerve to secure a remarkable victory.
