The Champions Topalov (World Champion) and Nisipeanu (European Champion) are engaging in a 4-game match in Bucharest, Romania between April 6-9, 2006. This is exactly what a legitimate World Champion should do, play and promote chess. Good luck to both players! You can view the official website here.
Who will win the match? What will be the final score? My pick is Topalov 2.5 – 1.5.
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
This match is wonderful. Topalov so far has been an active and worthy world champion. The rules are also noteworthy for fighting chess.
From the website: “The players should not talk during the games; additionally they should not offer draws directly to their opponents. Draw-offers will be allowed only through the Chief-Arbiter in three cases: a triple-repetition of the position, a perpetual check and in theoretically drawn positions.”
This is great for match play!
Topalov 3-1.
First game ended in a draw.
