ECU President Boris Kutin said the following about the match between Kamsky and Topalov:
“My personal opinion is that the match should be in Bulgaria. FIDE tried to find another country to organize the event and raised the requirements about the prize fund, but I am not optimistic that candidates will be found.
Kamsky should sign the match contract within a few days. If he does not, he will be replaced by Alexei Shirov.”

I wonder how much Fide really tried?
he is just trying to make Kamsky to refuse to sign the contract out of anger, that is all it is
I am still alive…
This song is dedicated to Susan and its message aimed at her enemies.
It is a catchy cute song.

After reading Topalov’s interview and reading this it seems Topalov is afraid of Kamsky and with good reason!
Kamsky should sign….He can beat Topalov. I mean, if he doesn’t sign, then he loses all chances of the WCC this cycle and any prize money. It doesn’t make sense that no other country would host this match…I agree with the other post: I wonder how much FIDE really tried?
Nevertheless, if this is an “all or nothing” choice for Kamsky, then I hope he does it. He’s got a family and I doubt is a millionaire….so, even if he lost against Topalov (which I don’t think he would), I’m sure the payday would be nice.
I really hope the match is played. I’m surprised that as much money that is floating around in the U.S. why it couldn’t be played in New York, Los Angelas or some big city here. Perhaps I’m ignorant of chess politics…
any country could organize this event in case the budget is guaranteed!
this is the only obstacle – it seems that this event is not of much value to the organizers and there are no sponsors to give this much money – apart from Bulgaria!
This is really funny cause USA is a real giant as compared to Bulgaria in all aspects but there are no sponsors for such an event. This is very much indicative and we must cheer the Bulgarians who will organize this interesting mach for all the chess fans in the world.
the speculations about Topalov are not objective and right!
I will really enjoy this match and hope they will gign it finally no matter where it will be played!
Kamsky should take the position that “I’ll play in your country. I’ll beat you man in your country. I’ll take your country’s money.”
I really want to see Kamsky – Kramnik. Both of these guys can win their respective matches. It matters not where this match is played. Topalov will have his hands full.
Go Gata!
Chess is played in a room on a chess board. One’s mind becomes focused on the game and the board. It should not matter what country the game is played in. I hope Kamsky will sign. I hope he wins. I do not like Topalov since game 5 of the match with Kramnik.
Topalov did not even have to play one single chess game to get this final match. Kamsky had to play and win a big tournament. Topalov is going down the drain. I hope Kamsky kicks his butt good.
Topalov, almost alone among top GM’s, supported Ilyumzhinov’s re-election in 2006.
In return, he was given a free point at Elista, and now has a totally unjustified free match.
On the other side, FIDE stuffed Kamsky around something rotten re. the 1996 Karpov match.
So, yeah, I doubt FIDE tried very hard…
Nevertheless, Kamsky would be advised to sign. Look where Ponomariov is now.
Kamsky will have his chances wherever the match is held. Topalov is shaky these days.
Only don’t go to the toilet 50 times a game…
think on this:
1. What did Kramnik do to earn the right to play for the WC title in the end of 2008?
2. How come nobody said something when Topalov-Kramnik match was scheduled in Russia.
3. What did Kramnik do to deserve the match in Elista for the WC title? Topalov had to win in San Luis against the top top chess elite?
4. What are the obstacles for any other country to organize the Topalov-Kamski match? No obstacles! there is just no one who wants to do this! FIDE gave the opportunity to any organizational committee to do this until 11 April! lack of sponsors is what determines the match location.
Think just on these before accusing Topalov of anything.
Shirov would probably refuse this offer since he has never forgiven Kramnik for doing nearly the same thing to him when he qualified to play Kasparov. FIDE would look very foolish having their first two candidates refuse the match.
kamski will play the match.
I don’t believe he even considers refusing it!
1. What did Kramnik do to earn the right to play for the WC title in the end of 2008?
— He agreed to put his title at stake in tournament even though he, and most other, thinks a match is the way to decide the championship.
2. How come nobody said something when Topalov-Kramnik match was scheduled in Russia.
— I wouldn’t know, perhaps they came up with the biggest sponsorship? But as I said, I don’t know.
3. What did Kramnik do to deserve the match in Elista for the WC title? Topalov had to win in San Luis against the top top chess elite?
— He was the world champion, and of course the champion must be present to defend his title vs the challenger. And I can of course mention that he took the title from the great Kasparov…
4. What are the obstacles for any other country to organize the Topalov-Kamski match? No obstacles! there is just no one who wants to do this! FIDE gave the opportunity to any organizational committee to do this until 11 April! lack of sponsors is what determines the match location.
— Agreed, if Kamsky can’t come up with sponsorship in a neutral country, the match should be in Bulgaria.
Checkmate Kamsky. But he should go down fighting and make some bucks anyway. So Bulgaria it is. I hope Anand defeats Kramnik in their match up,as a Kramnik – Topalov may never happen.
