Round 8 – Sunday the 21st

It was a very exciting day at Corus! Svidler started to play good chess again and he defeated Motylev with the Black pieces. Former world #3 and Armenian Olympiad Champion defeated the leader with the Black pieces. The Ukrainian young star Karjakin defeated the Czech phenom Navara in the battle of young stars. But the biggest matchup of the day was Topalov vs. Anand, the battle of 2 World Champions. The #1 ranking is also on the line. The favor went to Topalov and with Radjabov’s loss to Aronian, Topalov is now in clear first. He also picked up very valuable rating points to extend his World #1 ranking from Anand and Kramnik who drew Carlsen with White.
