Topalov is playing yummy chess and is fully deserving to pass 2800!
Topalov is even performing at 2992 so far if you don’t count his win against the 2289.
Topalov was crushed by Shirov, so he will need to break 2800 once again,
Look for chess!
Forget about numbers!
Now Topalov will drop to 2796 virtual, and Gelfand takes the lead in performances on board 1.
Gelfand now has 2862 for 9,
Topalov 2821 for 9.
That loss may just cost him the gold medal for board 1- with just 1 round left he needs either to win while Gelfand draws or loses, or draw while Gelfand loses, and even then it would be close…
Well Gelfand deserves it if he wins the gold medal- be has had much tougher average opposition and he is the oldest elite player left (in his 40s).
This list is in ERROR!
