Top GMs to compete in Luneta chess open

MANILA, Philippines – The country’s top rated grandmasters are set to compete in the 2012 Luneta Open Chess Championship next week.

Among the expected participants are Grandmasters (GMs) Wesley So, Oliver Barbosa, Mark Paragua and Darwin Laylo.

The competition kicks off at 10 a.m. on April 28 at the Luneta Lapu-Lapu statue (former skating rink) in Rizal Park.

The event, which is open to all ages and genders, is sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP).

Other participants include International Masters (IMs) Ronald Dableo, Rolando Nolte and Emmanuel Senador, among others.

Prizes at stake are as follows:

• First place P15,000
• Second place P8,000
• Third place P5,000
• Fourth place P4,000
• Fifth place P3,000
• Sixth to 10th place P1,000 each
