DYTM Raja Nazrin Shah International Open, with a total prize fund of RM 45,000 thanks to generous sponsorship from the Masterskill Education Group, was held in Kuala Lumpur at the Olympic Sports Hotel from 17-23 September 2012.

The event was organised by Polgar Chess Asia for the Kuala Lumpur Chess Association (KLCA) with support from the Malaysian Chess Federation.

82 players from 17 countries competed in the 9-round Swiss event, including 11 Grandmasters and 9 International Masters.

Last year champion GM Oliver Barbosa defeated his compatriot GM Mark Paragua in the final round to catch GM Sergei Tiviakov on the shared first place. However, Tiviakov was declared tournament winner on the superior tie-break.

Leading a pack of 4 players (including 3 Vietnamese!) just half a point behind was Cao Sang followed by Nguyen Van Huy, Jahongir Vakhidov, and Nguyen Duc Hoa. Full standings bellow. Visit also the official website.
