Towards the end of each year the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) organises back to back International Open Championships and this year is no different.

Both USD 30,000 tournaments will be held in Subic and first up will be the Philippine International Chess Championship from 8-14 November 2015 and which be followed by the Philippine Sports Commission Pure Gold Chess Challenge from 15-22 November 2015.

NCFP Executive Director GM Jayson Gonzales has already received 30 entries from foreign titled players.

The Philippines has for long been and Asian powerhouse and their numerous international opens over the last decade has been directly responsible for a generation of grandmasters from all over Asia including many from China.

At the same time visiting players have learned quickly how strong local players can be.

Immediately after will be the Myanmar International Open Chess Championship in Yangon from 22-28 November 2015 with title norms expected with grandmasters Dmitry Komarov, Nguyen Duc Hoa, Tahir Vakhidov and Gerhard Schebler all confirmed.

Of course Yangon has the additional attraction of offering some incredible sights including the unmatched Swedagon Pagoda.
