Decorating a toddler’s room so it’s not too girlie

THE SOLUTION

To make the room sophisticated and fun, designer Jill Sorensen recommends investing in furniture that will last, accented with inexpensive accessories.

Play with patterns. The comforter’s Greek key design and the rug’s geometric print spice up the space.

Floor-to-ceiling curtains make the room feel taller. Wider curtain rods let in more light.

Include accessories that will last through the years. A chess lamp adds a touch of sophistication to the playful room.

So let me get this straight. We are supposed to display a chess lamp to add a touch of sophistication to a room and not make it look so girlie? What?? So a chess lamp is associated with boys?

What is your take?
